Best-selling author of The Monuments Men, Robert M. Edsel, is coming to Wagner Noël Performing Arts Center for a free community lecture hosted by the Shepperd Leadership Institute.
The Monuments Men, is the dramatic true story of a small group of unlikely heroes and their race against time to save the world’s most treasured art and cultural treasures from the destruction of WWII and theft by the Nazis. The book, and award-winning movie based off it, have led Robert M. Edsel to be an international thought leader and renowned advocate of protecting cultural works and restoring fine art to its rightful owners.
While Edsel is best known as a best-selling author and art advocate, his roots are in the oil industry. After achieving national rankings as a tennis player, he began his career in oil and gas exploration at 24. He founded Gemini Exploration, which pioneered the use of horizontal drilling technology, and became one of the most active drillers of U.S. horizontal wells in the mid ‘90s.
Edsel showcases that a commitment to the love of learning and hard work can lead to the accomplishment of big things. He believes in “Excellence in all things,” and when asked his specialty skill, he replies: “Getting things done.”
The Robert M. Edsel Distinguished Lecture will have something for just about everyone and promises to be inspiring for the West Texas community.
The Distinguished Lecture Series is a hallmark program of the Shepperd Leadership Institute at The University of Texas Permian Basin. The Distinguished Lectures are free community events to inspire learning, connection, and leadership. They remain free of charge thanks to generous donations from the Shepperd Inner Circle members.
