The theme of Diwali or Deepavali (light) festival is solidarity when everyone comes together with families and friends in affection and reverence. It is celebrated by Hindus worldwide to commemorate the triumph of good over evil, knowledge over ignorance, and hope over despair.
In Hindu culture, light is a powerful metaphor of knowledge and consciousness. It is a reminder of the preciousness of self-inquiry and enhancement of self-knowledge; which brings harmony to the individual, to the family, and to the community and between communities. By honoring the light, we affirm the fact that from respect arises knowing for acceptance of others. Lighting lamps reminds us to keep on the right path, to dispel darkness from our hearts and minds, and to welcome wisdom and righteousness around us!!
